Setup URL forwarding in cPanel

This guide details how to proceed to set up a URL forwarding in cPanel. The guide requires you to first log into cPanel.

Step 1:
Click on the icon for "Redirects" as shown in the screenshot below:

Click Redirect in cPanel dashboard.

There are several ways to set up URL forwarding. This guide will detail three different ways to set it up.

  1. Domain to domain.
  2. File to file.
  3. Folder to folder.

1. Domain to domain

Step 1:
Here the domain "dittdomene.net" is set to point to the domain "proisp.no".

Redirect domain in cPanel
  1. Choose whether the pointing should be permanent or temporary.
  2. Choose which domain on your account you want to point from.
  3. Let the field for file/folder stay empty.
  4. Type the domain you want to point towards.
  5. Choose whether you want to point with or without www.
  6. Press "Add" to start using the forwarding.

2. File to file

Step 3:
Her the file "fil1.html" points to file "fil2.html".

Create redirect in cPanel


It is possible to set up any file on your website to point to any other file, from any other website you want.

  1. Choose whether the pointing should be permanent or temporary.
  2. Choose which domain on your account you want to point from.
  3. Type the file name of the file you want to point from.
  4. Type the URL you want to point towards.
  5. Choose whether you want to point with or without www.
  6. Press "Add" to start using the forwarding.

3. Folder to folder

Step 4:
Here the folder "/katalog1/" is set to point to the folder "/katalog4/".

  1. Choose whether the pointing should be permanent or temporary.
  2. Choose which domain on your account you want to point from.
  3. Type the folder name of the folder you want to point from.
  4. Type the URL you want to point towards.
  5. Choose whether you want to point with or without www.
  6. Press "Add" to start using the forwarding.
