October status update for move to new platform
After halting all moves to the new platform on 19 September, here comes a new status of immediate plans and progress.
Over the past few weeks, we have analyzed well over 1,000 recent incoming inquiries to better understand what is important to our customers, and during this time have realized that we have moved too fast. In sum, there is a gap between new and old platform that is too big – at the moment – and we sincerely apologize.
Our top priority is to always create a better experience for our customers, and consequently the gap between old and new platforms must be reduced. We still have ambitions to move all customers to our new hosting platform. This is where the future lies, with increased performance and increased security – and increased functionality – finally.
Extended functionality
We are currently working on a number of improvements, including:
- Support for multiple scripting and programming languages:
- Older PHP versions.
- Node.js.
- Python and Perl (CGI).
- Support for cron jobs.
- Easier ways to send emails from our web spaces, but without compromising on security and deliverability.
- Easier access to log files.
Implementing new functionality will take a few months. This is because we need to add a lot of features that some customers use, and not just a few features that many use.
PHP versions
Support for PHP 7.4 has already been implemented, and previous versions are on the way. However, we would like to take this opportunity to once again encourage all customers to use the latest version of PHP. Even if you are using a so-called outdated but hardened PHP version, the software that uses it has inherent security challenges, and generally performs worse than software that uses a newer PHP version.
Control Panel
Customers on the new platform will have access to new functionality on an ongoing basis, while customers who are still on cPanel will continue as before until further notice. When the functionality on the new platform has been sufficiently extended, the remaining customers will also be moved. Affected customers will be notified well in advance!
Support
We’re happy to announce that phone support is finally available every weekday again, and we will soon be extending our opening hours! Last month, Customer Service was overwhelmed with migration-related questions, resulting in long wait times. We sincerely apologize to all affected customers and have increased our Customer Service capacity to be able to meet your expectations.
